The Train To Hunt Challenge was born in 2011 and designed to give hunters, not only a reason to train in the early parts of the year, but to give them a testing ground for their training program. It is unlike any event you have ever done, and will help you prepare for the ultimate goal, hunting season.

TRAIN TO HUNT CHALLENGE OVERVIEW

When you come to a Train To Hunt Challenge event you will soon discover that it is a supportive environment full of great staff and  like minded competitors.  Everyone there, regardless of age, gender, or fitness level are there because they love the outdoors, archery, and want to test themselves.
You will be checking in between 6am and 7am at which time you will be picking up your competitor packets that contain your competition shirt, 3D score card, and any addition purchases that you may have made during registration.
Next, you will be attending a mandatory competitor meeting where the event director will be welcoming you, giving you a layout of what the day will look like, as well as the specifics of the days events, the Challenge Course and 3D Course.  There is plenty of time for questions and the directors will make sure that everyone is clear about what to do, when to do it, and how each event will all be scored.

Challenge Course-8:00am Heat 1 starts.
You will be assigned a heat, and made aware approximately what time you can expect your heat to start.  In most cases, each competitor/team will be assigned an assistant/judge to help guide them though the tasks of the Challenge Course, and make sure that each competitor/team are completing the correct number of repetitions of each challenge movement to standard.
The Challenge Course consists of 5 competitors/teams per heat and all competitors will be required to complete the following lists of tasks for time.
20 over the box step ups
Loop Run (200-300 yards) No Pack/No Bow
Shoot one arrow at your designated target
10 Ground To Shoulder box overs
Loop Run (200-300 yards) No Pack/No Bow
Shoot one arrow at your designated target
10 Box facing burpee box overs
Loop Run (200-300 yards) No Pack/No Bow

10 Sand Bag Get Up box overs
Loop Run (200-300 yards) No Pack/No Bow

At the conclusion of your fourth shot you will put on back pack loaded with division appropriate weight and complete the Mountain portion of the Challenge Course.  This course will be approximately 1-1.5 miles and will require you to stop and shoot two designated targets.  Once you have completed the task list and cross the finish line, you will be given 30 minutes to recover before checking into Target 1 of the 3D Course.
Once all the competitors have completed the 3D course and all scores can be tallied, we will hold our awards ceremony and closing thoughts.

Men’s Open– Any male 16+ can enter this division.

  • Sandbag/Pack Weight for Mountain Course: 50 Pounds

Women’s Open- Any Female 16+ can enter this division.

  • Sandbag/Pack Weight for Mountain Course: 30 Pounds

Men’s Masters- Any Male 40+ can enter this division.

  • Sandbag/Pack Weight for Mountain Course: 50 Pounds

Women’s Masters- Any Female 40+ can enter this division.

  • Sandbag/Pack Weight for Mountain Course: 30 Pounds

Men’s Super Masters- Any Male 50+ can enter this division.

  • Sandbag/Pack Weight for Mountain Course: 30 Pounds

Women’s Super Masters- Any Female 50+ can enter this division.

  • Sandbag/Pack Weight for Mountain Course: 10 Pounds

*Men’s Senior Masters– Any Male 60+ can enter this division.

Traditional Archers Division- Any Male or Female regarless of age may enter this division if you are shooting traditional archery equipment.

  • Traditional Men Under 50 – Sandbag/Pack Weight for Mountain Course: 50 Pounds
  • Traditional Men Over 50 – Sandbag/Pack Weight for Mountain Course: 30 Pounds
  • Traditional Women Under 50 – Sandbag/Pack Weight for Mountain Course: 30 Pounds
  • Traditional Women Over 50 – Sandbag/Pack Weight for Mountain Course: 10 Pounds

Men’s Teams- Any Male can enter this division regardless of age. *Teams of 2 / must find your own partner.

  • Men’s Team Under 50 – Sandbag/Pack Weight for Mountain Course: 50 Pounds
  • Men’s Team Over 50 – Sandbag/Pack Weight for Mountain Course: 30 Pounds

Women’s Teams- Any Female can enter this division regardless of age.*Teams of 2 / must find your own partner.

  • Women’s Team Under 50 – Sandbag/Pack Weight for Mountain Course: 30 Pounds
  • Women’s Team Over 50 – Sandbag/Pack Weight for Mountain Course: 10 Pounds

Co-Ed Teams- Any Male or Female can enter this division regardless of age. *Teams of 1 male and 1 female. / Must find your own partner.

  • Co-Ed Male Under 50 – Sandbag/Pack Weight for Mountain Course: 50 Pounds
  • Co-Ed Male Over 50 – Sandbag/Pack Weight for Mountain Course: 30 Pounds
  • Co-Ed Female Under 50 – Sandbag/Pack Weight for Mountain Course: 30 Pounds
  • Co-Ed Female Over 50 – Sandbag/Pack Weight for Mountain Course: 10 Pounds

All competitors that place top 3 in their respected divisions will receive a metal and as well as earn an invitation to the 2018 Train To Hunt Challenge National Championships held in Mesa, Colorado at Powderhorn Ski resort on July 14th and 15th.
